Remembrance Poetry Day with Ira Lightman
7th November 2018
All pupils enjoyed working with author and poet Ira Lightman on his Gibson project, contributing their poetry and voices towards an art installation for Alnwick Garden's Armistice Day Commemoration. Ira worked with each class to draw on Gibson's use of reportage to make war poetry and his 1919 collection, which celebrates Northumberland as a haven to return to after war.
As part of our enrichment curriculum, pupils also created a BMS centenary wreath containing exactly 100 poppies. This was laid at the war memorial during Bellingham Remembrance Service by members of our Pupil Forum and Prefects.
Opportunity for pupils was given to attend an optional Prayer Space to reflect on Remembrance. We would like to thank the Revd Doctor Susan Ramsaran for supporting the children with this chance to be still and think quietly.
Many pupils chose to say their own personal thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice through a creative response for their enrichment homework challenge, the quality of which was impressive.
