Languages - our aim

Our aim is to make language learning engaging and enjoyable. Although French is the primary language taught in all year groups, we aim to give 'taster' sessions in other langauges, and have regularly welcomed language students from Newcastle university, who have shared their love of languages such as chinese, Russian and Spanish.

We use a variety of different resources such as songs in the target language, interactive whiteboard games and film clips of French children. To practice their speaking skills children complete short creative projects, such as weather forecasts, inteviews about themselves, role-plays at the doctor's surgery and a video exchange project with a school in France.

Grammar is introduced in context, and by the end of Key Stage 3 pupils will have been introduced to the past, present and future tense, laying the foundation for future study.
