Year 5 MICCI Project

News

Year 5 have been working with MICCI (Moorland Indicators of Climate Change Initiative) and the National Parks.  The question posed was:  "Are upland moorlands storing carbon or releasing carbon?"

As part of this project they visited Padon Hill peat bog to carry out a number of investigations which would help them answer this question.  They braved the elements to collect soil samples, measure peat depth, measure soil and water termperatures, conduct plant surveys and record their results.

The data collected has been submitted to 'Moors for the Future' for analysis to help with their research.

This project was a very practical and interesting one for our children who worked well together to collect their data.  Well done Year 5!
