Geography

Intent

Although our pupils live in one of the most rural, idyllic areas of the UK, they also live in a world of incredible charm, immense intricacy yet one which is also under continual threat. Geography is the subject which facilitates understanding of this dynamic world and prepares each one of us for the role of global citizen in the 21st century.

Our carefully planned geography curriculum exploits our incredible location.  It allows pupils to appreciate how places and landscapes are formed, how people and environments interact, what consequences arise from our everyday decisions, and what a diverse range of cultures and societies exist and interconnect. We aim to develop inquisitive geographers who formulate questions, develop intellectual skills and who find answers to issues affecting their lives and the lives of those around them, using investigative tools such as maps, fieldwork, as well as digital communication technologies.

Throughout their time with us, pupils learn to value and care for the planet and its inhabitants.  They leave us with their eyes open to the beauty and wonder around them and appreciating the complexity of attitudes and values which shape the way we use, and misuse, the environment.
