Live video streaming is on the rise at the moment, with Twitter rolling out a Periscope button (link is external) to all its users this week. Facebook and Instagram have also added live video to their services, and it seems like new live video platforms are popping up all the time.
YouNow is a live streaming service that's especially popular with young people - the app's founder says 70% of its users are under 24.1 One of YouNow's distinctive features is the chat window that runs alongside video broadcasts, letting other users interact with the people they're watching. You can also use virtual 'bars' to show your appreciation for performers.
Live streaming can be unpredictable and hard to moderate, which makes apps like YouNow worrying for many parents and carers. CEOP have produced a guide for parents and carers explaining what YouNow is, some of the risks and how to help your child use it safely.
