Computing

Curriculum Intent

We understand the significant role technology has in society today.  At Bellingham Middle School we aim to equip all pupils with the knowledge, understanding and life-skills to use information and communication technologies in a safe way in order to become responsible, respectful, resilient and kind digital citizens. Our computing curriculum aims to help pupils gain key knowledge and skills in three main areas: computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), information technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information) and digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully). Each area is developed equally so that our pupils leave us well-prepared for further study in this field.

At Bellingham Middle School, pupils' online safety is a key priority. We ensure all pupils are given opportunities to reflect on their own and others' use of technology, as well as considering the impact computer science has on their lives. They are taught the importance, and necessity, of good etiquette when using digital devices both in and outside of the classroom.
