Intent
Art and Design embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity and at Bellingham Middle School, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. We inspire to engage, challenge and equip the students with the knowledge and skills to invent, experiment and create their own works of art, craft and design inspired by the wider world. Through skills development, including drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramics, woodwork, computer design and printing, students learn to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of the art and design process.
Students learn the importance of art in their locality, as well as its global significance and influence. We are incredibly lucky to be situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK which we take full advantage of in our learning. Art affects everyone’s lives in many ways and as such we above all aim to instil a love and passion for creativity with our students and the belief that they can progress and achieve. Our school values of kindness, resilience and respect are fundamental to all our learning and students are continually encouraged to strive to be the best that they can be. You don’t need to be great to start, but you need to start to be great!
